NA-1 Neuroischemia Therapeutic
NA-1 is a novel therapeutic that is being developed for the treatment of acute neuroischemia, including that associated with endovascular procedures. NA-1 acts by targeting a PDZ protein that disrupts the signaling pathway which regulates neuronal cell death. In studies in laboratory rats, NA-1 has been found to reduce the brain damage that occurs following ischemic insult by as much as 80%. In partnership with the biotechnology company NoNO, Inc., AVC is evaluating NA-1 in clinical trials to assess its efficacy as a neuroprotective agent. A Phase I, double-blind, placebo
controlled clinical trial in healthy human subjects was successfully
completed with no serious adverse events.
AVC has also entered into a collaborative research and development agreement with Walter Reed Army Institute of Research to explore the efficacy of NA-1 in traumatic brain injury (TBI). |
